Valentine's Day Run

This past weekend was our "special" Valentine's Day run. What made it special was the bus ride out to mile 10 on the course. We then proceeded to run the marathon course through Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brighton, Brookline, and finish on Boylston Street in Boston (finish line). It was a total of 17 miles but who's counting, really.

What also made it special was the festive outfits. Some wore VDay colors, others took it to the next level. Chip and I redefined 'special' that day. As always, taking it WAY to far. We dressed up so ridiculously it would be impossible to beat us. Yes, it was a competition. Best costumes won a prize at the after party held at The Pour House. We thought our efforts would be rewarded with a nice hooded sweatshirt, or maybe a gift certificate to Marathon Sports or something (possibly to buy some pants?!) but we were sadly mistaken. Bag-o-candy was our prize which really made us second guess our getups. In reality, they were NOT that cheap. They were probably about 30-40 bucks each.

The run itself was okay - we knew we were going to take it easy and enjoy the looks, the snickers, and the parents shielding their children's eyes. By the end though, Chip was having a tough time. I mean, really though, he hasn't hit the pavement yet this year at that distance. He now knows, that no elliptical/bike/swim training will replace the workout you get from getting out there and pounding the pavement. I would have liked to go faster but there was no way I was running by myself wearing that ridiculous outfit. We had to stay together. All in all - turned out to be a 7:23 mile. Really hard for me to believe considering how slow we were going at the end so we must've been really flying at the beginning then!

This weekend is an easy 10.5. Debating doing it on friday and making a trip to NYC. I don't know yet.
